We’re hiring a Payroll Specialist in Washington, DC!
The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for processing payroll, supporting employee benefits programs, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of ADP as a payroll system, and experience handling pay and benefits compliance for a multi-state workforce. The ideal candidate has a background in the restaurant, hospitality, or retail industry and is adept at navigating the complexities of payroll in multiple jurisdictions. This location is based on Washington, DC.

Your core responsibilities will be:
- Processes bi-weekly payroll for 400+ employees across multiple states, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Maintains payroll records, including earnings, deductions, and tax withholdings
- Ensure accurate distribution of tips and service charges in compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
- Address payroll-related questions from employees regarding paychecks, deductions, and benefits in a timely manner, providing service that reflects our core values
- Collaborates with HR and Finance teams to address payroll discrepancies and resolve employee inquiries
- Ensures that all required payroll data, including status change forms, tax-related documents, benefit information, direct deposit information, and time off accruals are accurately collected and documented for all employees
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations, including wage and hour laws
- Processes employee increases, bonuses, and other commissions required for payroll
- Assist with year-end payroll reporting, W-2 processing, annual employee reporting, and audits
- Update payroll records for new hires, terminations, promotions, and pay rate changes.
- Manage relationships with third-party payroll and benefits providers
- Supports administering benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and leave policies
- Support open enrollment and employee benefits communications
- Supports in Worker’s Comp., Disability, Paid Family Leave, FMLA, and other leave and/or claims processing
- Responds to unemployment insurance requests in a timely fashion
- Stay up-to-date on changes in employment laws and regulations affecting payroll and benefits
- Supports management of HRIS and Payroll systems, ensuring accurate data entry, system updates, and reporting.
- Creates and updates Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all assigned duties
- Other finance, employee records, and benefits duties as assigned
You’ll be a great addition to the CYM team if you have:
- 2+ years of experience in payroll and benefits administration, preferably in the restaurant, hospitality, or retail industry.
- Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll processing, tax laws, and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in ADP payroll software and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience managing employee benefits programs, including health insurance and retirement plans.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to address employee payroll and benefits inquiries.
- Proficiency in speaking Spanish is a plus.
